On Resilience and National Security: IEŚ at the Forum in Wyryki

On 19 June 2026, the Second Eastern Poland Security Forum took place in Wyryki (Lublin Voivodeship). The Institute of Central Europe was represented by Dr. Grzegorz Gil, Director of IEŚ, and Dr. Jakub Olchowski, an IEŚ analyst.

The forum brought together representatives of central and local government, uniformed services, academia, civil society organizations, and local communities. Participants included Stanisław Wziątek, Undersecretary at the Ministry of National Defence, as well as representatives of local governments, the Polish Armed Forces, the Border Guard, the Police, the State Fire Service, and volunteer fire brigades.

The programme featured panel discussions on the security of borderland communities, civil protection and civil defence, cooperation between local authorities, emergency services, and civil society organizations, the role of the military in the national security system, information hygiene and countering disinformation, and strengthening societal resilience in times of crisis.

The forum provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss the challenges facing both national security and local communities, particularly in the context of eastern Poland’s strategic location. Participants emphasized the importance of cooperation among public institutions, security services, civil society organizations, and the expert community in building resilience to contemporary threats.
