In an interview with Polish Radio for Foreign Audiences, Dr Jakub Bornio, an analyst at the Institute of Central Europe (IEŚ), argued that the change of government in Hungary does not represent a fundamental shift in the country’s foreign policy. He noted that relations with Ukraine will continue to be shaped largely by issues related to the protection of the Hungarian minority.
Dr Bornio also observed that, although the new government has taken steps to improve relations with the European Union, no radical changes should be expected in Hungary’s policy towards Russia. During the interview, he also encouraged audiences to consult analyses produced by independent research institutions and Hungarian-language sources in order to gain a better understanding of the country’s contemporary politics.
A recording of the interview is available on the website of the Ukrainian Service of Polish Radio under the title: What Was, What Will Be, and What the Heart Cannot Settle: Changes in Hungary Under Peter Magyar.
