Summary
The purpose of this work is to analyse the actions of government institutions in Ukraine under the administration of President Volodymyr Zelensky in his first year, May 2019 to May 2020. This report aims to point out the changes that have occurred in state policy during this period and the consequences in all facets of the country. The author highlights President Zelensky’s main achievements such as the acceleration of reforms in almost all spheres of the state, some level of success in stabilising the socio-political situation, reduction of the intensity of the armed conflict in Donbas, and improvements in the area of security. The lack of improvement in the economy of Ukraine is one of the most visible shortcomings of his administration. This report presents both the aforementioned reforms and statistical data showing the actual state of affairs in the country and assesses the effectiveness of the actions taken by the political authorities under the leadership of the current President. A detailed analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the first year of Zelensky’s presidency allows us to conclude that, despite tangible achievements, there is still a threat of the further decomposition of the state and the transformation of the intensifying economic crisis into a political one.
