IEŚ Analysts Discuss Artificial Intelligence and National Security at Academic Conference in Chełm

On 29 May 2026, analysts from the Institute of Central Europe—Dr. Marlena Gołębiowska and Dr. Jakub Olchowski—took part in the national academic conference “Człowiek i algorytm w służbie państwa: sztuczna inteligencja i nowe technologie w systemie bezpieczeństwa wewnętrznego – od cyberprzestrzeni po ochronę granic” (Eng.Humans and Algorithms in the Service of the State: Artificial Intelligence and New Technologies in Internal Security Systems—from Cyberspace to Border Protection”), organized by the Department of Security Studies and the Department of National Security Management at the University College of Applied Sciences in Chełm.

The conference focused on the role of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in the state’s internal security system, as well as the challenges associated with their implementation and use. The event brought together representatives of academia, public administration, and institutions responsible for security and public safety.

During the conference, Dr. Marlena Gołębiowska delivered a presentation entitled “Adopcja sztucznej inteligencji – społeczne uwarunkowania wdrożeń w obszarze bezpieczeństwa” (Eng. “The Adoption of Artificial Intelligence: Social Determinants of AI Implementation in the Security Sector”), examining the factors that influence the acceptance and deployment of AI-based solutions. Dr. Jakub Olchowski presented a paper titled “AI jako narzędzie dezinformacji” (Eng. “AI as a Tool of Disinformation”), analysing the risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence to create and disseminate false or misleading content.

The programme also included discussions on cybersecurity, border protection, unmanned systems, biometrics, crisis management, the use of Big Data, and legal responsibility for decisions supported by artificial intelligence.

The conference was held under the honorary patronage of Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Senator of the Republic of Poland Prof. Józef Zając, Mayor of Chełm Jakub Banaszek, and Prof. Beata Fałda, Rector of the University College of Applied Sciences in Chełm.
