Challenges faced by Poland and NATO following the Ankara Summit: Expert seminar at the Institute of Central Europe

On 9 July 2026, the Institute of Central Europe (IEŚ) hosted a closed expert seminar on the challenges facing Poland’s security policy and the future of the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance following the NATO Summit in Ankara.

The seminar provided an opportunity for an in-depth discussion of the key challenges confronting NATO amid a rapidly evolving security environment. Topics included tensions within the Alliance, the ongoing Europeanisation of NATO, the situation in the Middle East, and the implications of the political and societal pressures faced by the governments of NATO member states.

Among the participants was Minister Jakub Stefaniak. The event also brought together analysts representing the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW), the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM), Defence24, the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Warsaw (SEW UW), and the Institute of Central Europe (IEŚ).

The discussion focused on Poland’s role in shaping NATO’s security policy, the Alliance’s future development, and the challenges facing Central and Eastern Europe in an increasingly uncertain international environment.

The seminar served as a platform for the exchange of expertise and analytical perspectives, promoting reflection on the future direction of the European and transatlantic security architecture.
