Book promotion of “Jakub Karpiński. Porcja wolności” at Brama Grodzka

The Institute of Central Europe, the “Brama Grodzka – Teatr NN” Centre, the Kultura Literary Institute, and the UMCS Research Laboratory on the Literary Institute in Paris invite you to the launch of Jakub Karpiński. Porcja wolności, volume 311 of the Biblioteka Kultury series. The event will take place on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at the “Brama Grodzka – Teatr NN” Centre in Lublin (ul. Grodzka 21).

The publication is a new edition of writings by Jakub Karpiński, a sociologist, public intellectual, and thinker associated with Poland’s democratic opposition in Poland under Communism. The volume is published by the Institute of Central Europe in Lublin, the Kultura Literary Institute, and the UMCS Research Laboratory on the Literary Institute.

The book and the life and work of Jakub Karpiński will be discussed by Irena Lasota (special guest), Dr. hab. Sławomir Łukasiewicz, and Dr. Andrzej Czyżewski. The discussion will provide an opportunity to reflect on the significance of Karpiński’s legacy for thinking about freedom, intellectual opposition, and the twentieth-century experience of Central and Eastern Europe.

Copies of publications by the Institute of Central Europe will be available during the event.
