The Institute of Central Europe has prepared three special publications centered around the activity of the Literary Institute in Paris. Their release dates coincide with the 25th anniversary of the death of Editor Jerzy Giedroyc. These works were made possible thanks to the commitment of the Institute’s publishing team, with graphic design by Prof. Krzysztof Rumowski.
Jerzy Giedroyc. Autobiografia na cztery ręce
This re-edition of the Autobiografia was prepared in cooperation with the Literary Institute Association in Paris and includes an introduction and afterword by Prof. Krzysztof Pomian. The book will be presented on September 12 at the Polish Library in Paris during an evening marking the 25th anniversary of the deaths of Gustaw Herling-Grudziński and Jerzy Giedroyc. In October, a promotional event will also take place in Warsaw with the participation of Prof. Pomian.
The volume has 272 pages, in Swiss binding with a slipcase, and contains 36 photographs (including 10 foldouts) documenting the history of the Literary Institute and its founder.
Jakby w cieniu i ciszy. Białoruś na łamach paryskiej ‘Kultury’
A re-edition of an anthology by Tadeusz Sucharski, it presents texts published in “Kultura” concerning Belarus—its history, its ties with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and its contemporary situation. It also includes essays addressing complex national and religious issues in the northeastern lands of the former Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth.
It is also the first volume in a new publishing series „Biblioteka Instytutu Europy Środkowej” (“The Library of the Institute of Central Europe”).
Daniel Beauvois, Podwójne poddaństwo i problem ziemi w Ukrainie 1793–1920
This work, previously unpublished in Polish, is by Prof. Daniel Beauvois, an eminent French historian and Polish studies scholar specialising in research on the eastern territories of the former Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. The author—well known for his seminal book Trójkąt ukraiński. Szlachta, carat i lud na Wołyniu, Podolu i Kijowszczyźnie 1793–1914—examines the history of the Lithuanian–Ruthenian lands under Russian dominion and the problem of land ownership in Ukraine. It is the second volume in the „Biblioteka Instytutu Europy Środkowej” series.
