Piotr Oleksy on the Post-Election Situation in Moldova in New Eastern Europe

The New Eastern Europe (NEE) portal has published an article by Dr. Piotr Oleksy, an analyst at the Institute of Central Europe, titled Mołdawski rząd nie może osiąść na laurach. Rosja nie zrezygnuje z prób podporządkowania kraju (The Moldovan government cannot rest on its laurels. Russia will not give up its efforts to subjugate the country).

Oleksy notes that despite the victory of pro-European forces and the weakening of Moscow’s influence, Moldova still faces serious challenges. The election results should be viewed not as a guarantee of stability but as a warning. Any political complacency within the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) could slow down reforms and weaken the country’s current path toward integration.

He emphasizes that Russia—despite its recent setbacks—still possesses instruments to exert pressure on Chișinău and may revise its strategy toward the country, increasing the risk of destabilization. Safeguarding Moldova’s pro-European course therefore requires steady reforms, effective public communication, and stronger state institutions.
