The Institute of Central Europe is the main partner of the 5th Richard Pipes Laboratory Conference of the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences, titled “Imperialism, Decolonization, Agency: Historical and Political Discourses of Power in the Global East.”
The event will take place on November 13–14, 2025, at the Staszic Palace in Warsaw, in an in-person format.
This year’s edition focuses on issues of imperialism, decolonization, and the agency of the post-socialist Global East—understood as the space of the former Cold War Second World and borderland regions, including, among others, the former Yugoslavia. The organizers invite participants to reflect on the current state and future of Global East studies, combining the traditions of Soviet and East European studies with new research approaches.
