On 17 September 2026, an educational event dedicated to information security, resilience to disinformation, and the challenges of today’s information environment was held in Lublin. The event was organised by the Institute of Central Europe (ICE) and the Jan Karski Institute of War Losses (ISW).

Minister Jakub Stefaniak from the Chancellery of the Prime Minister took part in the event.

A Discussion on Information Security

One of the key points of the programme was an educational session with students from the Union of Lublin Secondary School No. 3 in Lublin. The workshop “Information Hygiene: How Not to Be Manipulated” focused on the mechanisms of today’s information environment, the influence of algorithms on the content we consume, and ways of identifying disinformation and manipulation.

Analysts from the Institute of Central Europe, Agata Tatarenko and Andrzej Szabaciuk, led the workshop for the students. Participants also discussed historical disinformation in the context of the anniversary of the Soviet aggression against Poland, as well as the risks associated with AI-generated content.

“Lost Beauty” Exhibition

As part of the event, Minister Jakub Stefaniak, together with representatives of the organising institutions, laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Litewski Square. This was followed by a press conference attended by the Minister and representatives of both institutes.

The “Lost Beauty” exhibition, prepared by the Jan Karski Institute of War Losses, was also opened. The exhibition presents monuments of material culture that were destroyed and, in a sense, erased from history. Its opening in Lublin marked the exhibition’s first presentation in Poland.

Education for Resilience

The event was a pilot initiative within the Institute of Central Europe’s developing education-for-resilience programme. Its aim is to support young people in using information responsibly, identifying manipulation, and developing the skills necessary to navigate today’s information environment.
