Andrzej Szabaciuk discusses the plight of civilians in Ukraine on Polish Radio 24

Andrzej Szabaciuk, PhD, an expert at the Institute of Central Europe, appeared on Polish Radio 24 to discuss the situation facing civilians in Ukrainian towns and cities near the front line, including Oleshky.

He explained that many of those who remain in areas under threat are elderly, in poor health or living in poverty, and cannot afford to evacuate or rent accommodation in safer parts of the country. He stressed that staying in their homes is often not a matter of choice, but a consequence of having nowhere else to go.

Andrzej Szabaciuk also discussed the ceasefire in Oleshky, intended to allow humanitarian aid to reach residents and civilians to be evacuated. He addressed the role of Ukrainian diplomacy, as well as the involvement of Melania Trump and Pope Leo XIV in efforts to secure an agreement.
