On 24–25 September 2026, the “OFA 25+: Lessons, Legacies, Horizons” conference was held in Skopje, focusing on the legacy of the Ohrid Framework Agreement and the transformations that have taken place in North Macedonia since the events of 2001.

Dr hab. Agata Domachowska, an expert at the Institute of Central Europe, participated in the conference and took part in the panel “Dealing with the Past (DwP), The Politics of Memory”. Together with Naum Trajanovski, Mariglen Demiri, Boro Kitanoski and Petar Todorov, she discussed the memory of the events of 2001 and the ways in which the state and society of North Macedonia have dealt with their consequences.

One of the topics addressed during the discussion was the Ohrid Framework Agreement, which brought the 2001 conflict to an end and laid the foundations for changes concerning, among other issues, relations between the communities living in North Macedonia. The panellists examined how the events of 25 years ago are remembered and interpreted today, as well as the challenges that continue to affect relations between the country’s various communities.

The conference provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives and reflect on the events of 2001, both in terms of their historical legacy and the contemporary challenges facing North Macedonia.
