This report provides a thorough analysis of the Baltic Defence Line initiative in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, examining its strategic, political, and social aspects. Launched in January 2024, the aim of this initiative is to protect the borders of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia and to build de fence installations in border areas in light of the deteriorating security situation in the Baltic Sea region following Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the subsequent full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The Baltic states agree that defence structures along the border are necessary to defend their territory. The initiative aims to strengthen the Baltic states' military border protection capabilities and delay or prevent a potential adversary from conducting rapid military operations.
