Professor Georgiy Kasianov

Post-Soviet Decommunization: Actors, Actions, and Outcomes

Professor Georgiy Kasianov is the Head of the Contemporary History and Politics Department at the Institute of History of Ukraine, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He is the author, editor, or co-author of books about the social, political, and intellectual history of Ukraine in the 19th and 20th centuries, the politics of history, and the theories of nation and nationalism. His research interests focus on the rewriting of history in the post-communist world, the theories of nation and nationalism, and the history of Ukraine.

Maksym Surzhynskyi

Legitimacy as the 21st Century’s ‘New Oil’ Feeding Political Regimes: Lessons from Ukraine

Maksym Surzhynskyi is a Research Fellow with the International Law and Comparative Law Studies Department at the Koretsky Institute of State and Law, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He holds a PhD in law. His research includes the implementation of technical innovations coupled to political science to support legitimacy and institutional change, the problems of state power organisation in consideration of the socio-political and economic environment, and good governance.


Oleksandr Koliastruk

Creation of State Institutions in Post-Soviet Ukraine: Society’s Expectations, Politicians’ Visions, and the Uncertain Reality

Oleksandr Koliastruk is a Research Fellow with the Contemporary History and Politics Department at the Institute of History of Ukraine, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He holds a PhD in history. His primary research is in the political history of contemporary Ukraine, the history of legislatures in Ukraine, and the history of political parties and political elites.
